Job description

As an engineer specializing in the telecommunications sector, you will play a crucial role in handling patent applications for our esteemed clientele. Your responsibilities will include:

Claim Review: Review for claim amendments upon national entry into US and/or Europe in the field of telecommunications.

Office Action Responses: Strategically crafting responses to Office Actions issued by the United States Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO) as well as other patent offices (mainly EPO and IPO) to overcome rejections and obtain favorable outcomes for our clients’ patent applications.

 

Job requirements

To be successful in this role, you should possess the following qualifications:

Educational Background: A minimum of a Bachelor’s degree in Physics, Electrical Engineering, communication engineering, or Computer Science from an accredited institution. Advanced degrees and relevant certifications are a plus.

Professional Experience: At least two years of practical experience in the field of intellectual property, specifically responding to Office Action for foreign countries related to telecommunications. (Experience to USPTO and/or EPO a plus.)

Technical Proficiency: Strong technical knowledge in the fields of telecommunications, networking, wireless technologies, and related areas.

Legal Expertise: Thorough understanding of patent laws and regulations, with the ability to apply legal principles to protect and enforce patents effectively.

Communication Skills: Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to convey complex technical or legal concepts clearly and persuasively.

Analytical and Problem-Solving Skills: Strong analytical thinking and problem-solving abilities to address complex legal and technical issues.

Language Skills: Advanced reading skills in technical English required. Any nationality is acceptable.

Location

Tokyo, Japan with the possibility of working from home. Office: Shinjuku Mitsui Building 34th floor, Nishi-Shinjuku, Shinjuku-ku, Tokyo, Japan About a 6-minute walk from JR Shinjuku Station (west exit), Odakyu Shinjuku Station (Odakyu line) and Keio Shinjuku Station (Keio line) About a 2-minute walk from Nishi-Shinjuku Station (Marunouchi Line) About a 1-minute walk from Tochomae Station (Oedo line).

Hours

Full flextime system (no core hours; standard working hours 7.5 hours per day)

Holidays

2 days off per week (Saturday and Sunday), National holidays, December 29 - January 3 Annual paid leave (10-25 days/year), Congratulation or condolence leave, Long service leave, Hourly paid leave, etc.

Salary

Preferential treatment according to company regulations based on ability and experience,  Bonus: Twice a year (June and November), Salary increase: once a year
